…Allocation of resources is an imperfect science & the profit motive does not always insure that they are allocated in the best possible manner. That’s what I learned in my econ class. It’s clear that there’s not enough medical equipment to go around and in hindsight, we should have collected more of it to have on hand when the moment came….

I’m glad that the Navy was able to get the Comfort up and running so quickly, given that it was torn apart for maintenance purposes just a week ago. 1000 hospital beds and 12 operating rooms for trauma cases will allow the NYC docs to focus on Co-vid 19 cases. I couldn’t find out how many ventilators they had, but maybe they could loan those to the NYC hospitals.

He made the mistake of letting 120,000 women convene to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 and now 2 weeks later his death toll has surpassed China’s. He’s had to cancel Semana Santa, which is even bigger than canceling Christmas would be in the USA….

Math rescued me today. Maybe it can rescue you, too. … I was heading to a very dark place until I saw an article in today’s NYT about a logarithmic graph showing the rate of growth of CV is slowing in Italy. I found comfort in seeing that this too shall pass, even though it will get worse before it gets better.

I will also be holding Asian-Americans in the Light. Rep. Judy Chu’s video in today’s WP reminded me that they are facing harassment from ignorant folk who blame them for CV. … I implore you to stop calling CV, the “Chinese virus.” It gives ignorant folks license to say stupid things.

While I think bailouts might be ok sometimes, it sounds like Boeing is even more messed up than United Airlines! The Seattle Times thinks that the board is dysfunctional and that the whole company needs a culture change….If you must give the airplane industry some $$, please consider Sen. Ed Markey’s suggestion that they work on reducing their carbon footprint….

.. I was troubled by some other numbers that I read this morning about younger people getting CV. WP reports that in the US, 38 percent of those sick enough to be hospitalized were younger than 55 … I hope these numbers are making their way to Facebook so those folks on the beaches in FL will give one another a wide berth.
