I’m sure you’ve heard that another group has emerged to stand between the protestors and the marshals. They call themselves, the “Wall of Vets,” and were inspired by Naval Academy Grads, Duston Obermeyer (DO) & Chris David (CJD), who went to the protests to ask the marshals if they knew that “assaulting an unarmed protester who is exercising their first amendment rights is illegal, that’s an illegal order.”
It’s wonderful that you are honoring Jim Ryun (JRR) with a Presidential Medal of Freedom this morning! … According to Vanity Fair, he brought that sense of humility to his 11 years in Congress as he endeavored to be “a servant leader representing my constituents with integrity.” I think we all have something to learn from JRR.
I understand that you are worried about the gun violence in places like Kansas City, Chicago & Albuquerque, but rather than send in the marshals to take over the city, why not expand AmeriCorps and send folks out of the city? Take armies of urban youth to the backcountry to clean up the woods, plant trees & build trails. … I encourage you to use Goodman Park as the venue of your announcement should you decide to pursue this idea.

As I am sure you are aware, yesterday’s NYT featured a comprehensive article about WH conversations in mid-April …. I’m afraid Dr. Birx (DLB) doesn’t look too good in this accounting. They called her the “the chief evangelist for the idea that the threat from the virus was fading” & say she was “a constant source of upbeat news” …As we both know, things have not turned out as well as DLB hoped.
..Those protestors in Portland are his (John Lewis) legacy & when you beat up on them, it makes you look bad. That’s what happened on Bloody Sunday in 1965 & Americans were horrified to see well-dressed Black folk being assaulted by State Troopers. JRL’s spirit is touching the hearts of every protestor today as they adhere to his plea, “Do not get lost in a sea of despair…Be hopeful, be optimistic.”…

…Seeing that you will be greeting ambassadors today led me to look up the new ambassadors that recently took office to represent the USA. I noticed that Cynthia Kierscht (CK), of Minnesota, has been appointed to be the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania….I assume you chose a career diplomat to handle Mauritania because it is such a challenging assignment.
Have you asked Ja’Ron Smith (JKS) about the changes you are making to the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA.) … I know he’s a champion of “Opportunity Zones,” & those zones might not improve if the air quality suffers. I’m sure you’ve heard that folks with lung problems get slammed by CV, so let’s do all we can to protect the air.
I see that you hosted some nice folk yesterday who had positive experiences with the police. …Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all of the stories about the police were like those that you were hearing yesterday? I wonder what conditions we would need in this world so that Black & Brown kids would know that everyone would treat them with respect.
