My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
I have two new friends in the house, Cady & Mott, short for Eliz Cady Stanton(ECS) & Lucrietta Mott (LM), both suffragettes & LM, was a Quaker, too. They just arrived yesterday, so this is the first morning we have spent together. I am trying to figure out how to keep an eye on them, while also writing to you. I need to wall off the various nooks & crannies of my office so they don’t get stuck behind a book shelf & then it should work.
I’m tempted to call one of the pups, Runa, after Runa Khan, who is my new hero. She came to my attention today because along with Bo Kyi from Burma, she just won the Ramon Magsaysay Award, often referred to as the Nobel Prize of Asia,.
According to Wikipedia, RK is a “ social entrepreneur, humanitarian, speaker & author. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Friendship NGO, “a social purpose organization that delivers integrated services to climate-affected & remote communities across Bangladesh.” The Club of Rome notes that “Friendship has been active in the Rohingya crisis response in Bangladesh since 2017, being the largest health delivery organisation & among the top three education delivery organisations in Cox Bazaar.”
Have you heard of the Club of Rome? They are the outfit that in the 1970’s sponsored Dana Meadows (DM), et al, to model what would happen if global population, industrialization, pollution, food production, & resource depletion continued growing on a finite planet. I took a class from DM at Dartmouth. She had us read about the model in her book “Limits to Growth.” We learned about systems, feedback loops & population collapse. I became convinced that we needed to change our consumption habits. Unfortunately, DM died at age 59 in 2001. We lost a sage.
I’m rambling here, but you sometimes do that, too. Research shows that those of us over-60 show decline in general conversational coherence due to “deterioration in domain-general cognitive control processes,” more specifically, “ reduced ability to inhibit irrelevant information.” I’m not sure if we can do much about this, but awareness might help us self-monitor.
My request for the day is that you reach out to RK to congratulate her & find out how you can support her efforts to serve the Rohingya. You might also ask about her experience using boats to deliver medical care. It could be informative to FEMA.
BYBS,
