My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

Cady & Mott are sleeping after spending the last 90 minutes tearing up many Kleenex & chasing each other into every corner of my apartment. I hesitate to leave my chair lest they wake & begin their frenetic activity again.

Do not get me wrong, I feel blessed by their presence. Their energy anchors me in the now as they respond with such glee to my attention. As the recently departed Wendell Berry (WEB) wrote in his famous poem. “I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.” BTW, please express your condolences to WEB’s followers.

Speaking of grief, I was saddened to learn about the flash flood in the Grand Canyon. Not only because some hikers died, but because climate change turned a seasonal rainstorm into a disaster. Of course, the loss of life was trivial in comparison to the disaster in Nepal, but this is closer to home in a place I hope to visit someday. Please acknowledge this tragedy & take some time to consider the scientific research associated with the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere.

How are you feeling today? Are you disappointed that Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is stepping down? Is there any truth to the rumor that he talked to you about the state of the Army before submitting his resignation? Is it because PBH canceled his drone program or is it because PBH disregards what the top brass are telling him? Are you considering firing PBH since he can’t seem to get his generals to fall in line?

I’m sure you are happy that the Supreme Court ruled that you can keep building the ballroom. Is there any way that you can scale that project back so it wouldn’t be so offensive to so many people? You could have some great parties in a smaller space.

Speaking of parties, have you heard of the Taungbyone Festival that is taking place right now in Burma? According to the Irrawaddy, “spirit consorts gather to renew their vows with a pantheon of gods hailed for their powers to protect & destroy. Drinking, dancing & swooning, the dazzling mediums commune with the 111 divine ghosts of ancient Burmese folk religion.” It’s such a deeply embedded cultural tradition that the junta tolerates it despite that fact that “most of the mystics are transgender women or other marginalized LGBTQ minorities” who would otherwise be arrested & incarcerated. Fascinating!
