My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Today is Union Day in Burma where the junta is celebrating the 1947 Panglong Conference described by textbooks as the event that brought together the country’s diverse multi-ethnic groups to form a united & ultimately independent nation. France24 points out that “the promise of Panglong turned out to be panglossian & (Burma) has not been a haven of inclusiviness for a number of the country’s 133 officially recognized minority ethnic groups – as well as other groups, such as the Rohingyas, that are not officially recognized.” Today would be a great day to call MAH to remind him that government works best when minority rights are respected.
OoM, it’s not too late to change your mind about Climate Change. Certainly you have to acknowledge that “greenhouse gases pose a risk to public health” & that the increase in extreme weather is taking a heavy toll around the world. Please tell Lee Zeldin to cancel his visit to the WH today & to rethink his priorities at the EPA.
That would shock the folks coming to my building for their Indivisible Yolo meeting today. They might have to reassess their stance that everything you do is evil.
If the Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara is still in town, you could hold a press conference with him at your side to declare to the world that the Walk of Peace has inspired you to introspect, & you will go on a silent retreat for a week to rethink your priorities. You’ve got at least 12 locations in the DC vicinity to choose from including the Friends Wilderness Center where you could sleep in a treehouse.
If you aren’t ready for such a radical shift, I hope you at least pay attention to your buddy Steve Bannon who told his podcast audience that the MAGA base “is not feeling it right now.” Today’s move to pull ICE out of Minnesota might help with that. You should also be aware that polling from Quinnipiac University indicates that 7 in 10 respondents believe the U.S. should not become involved in Iran.
Remember that WINTA, no matter what Bibi might say!
BYBS,
