My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
I’m sorry I missed our letter yesterday. Oct 7 has become one of those dates of significance which should prompt reflection & discernment. I was comforted to hear about the Across the Divide event at the 92nd St Y in NYC where Jonathan Dekel-Chen, father of a Hamas hostage, & Jaser Abu Mousa, father of two children killed by an Israeli airstrike, shared the stage to talk about their hopes for the future. Both men are resisting the rhetoric of hate that is circulating in their communities. They want to humanize the enemy as a step toward peace.
I encourage you to begin adopting that practice.
Have you heard of Anne Carson, the Canadian writer who just won the Nobel Prize for literature? I hadn’t, until today. She is known for her experimental style & combines translation with poetry & prose. What I most appreciated about what I read about her is her willingness to fail which she explained by saying “[My work] does fall apart a lot. It gets just too weird for anyone to care about reading, or else it gets diluted into a sort of parody of itself.” Would you like to join me in reading some of her work?
OoM, I’m surprised you are so mad at Rep. Henry Cuellar for not changing his party affiliation after you pardoned him for his money laundering/bribery indictment. I’m not sure party affiliation matters that much to the folks in TX-28. His opponent, your guy, Tano Tijerina, switched parties, so it seems neither candidate aligns closely to an ideology.
It’ll be fascinating to see what happens in TX-28 since it’s brand new & 87% of its eligible voters are Hispanic. According to the TX Tribune, “a critical chunk of voters have not shown strong adherence to either the Democratic or Republican label.” Folks say that local issues will win the race with tariffs, data centers & funding for ICE being priorities. I’m not sure which guy I’d vote for.
OoM, please look into the allegations of Justice For Myanmar that some Malaysian companies are procuring aerospace supplies for MAH. Since you & Malaysai’s PM, Anwar Ibrahim, are buddies after he helped you negotiate the ceasefire between Cambodia & Thailand, you can ask him to put a stop to this.
