My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
What are you doing on this Labor Day? Will you be spending time with Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Dremer (LCD)? Has she been successful in convincing you to let workers unionize?
I just saw her on Fox singing your praises. She got my attention when she mentioned that your BBB has “no tax for overtime.” I wondered what that meant & learned from USA Today that “it applies only to the premium portion of overtime pay” & “the average U.S. worker will see a tax break of just over $200 a year.” I encourage you to make it clear that workers DO pay tax on the regular wage part of their overtime pay.
Have you spoken with LCD about mandatory overtime? How about her views regarding workers’ rights to unionize? She says her first job involved packing peaches, so she seems to understand the rigors of manual labor. She’s on a 50-state tour to learn about the issues facing employees. I hope you’ll listen to her insights.
Please tell Kristi Noem to show some grace to the unaccompanied minors that she tried to deport this weekend. I agree with Senator Ron Wyden’s assessment that they are “some of the most vulnerable children entrusted to the government's care” & they need their day in court to make their cases. Sending them back to Guatemala is cruel. They wouldn’t have fled if staying there was a safe option.
Please reconsider your decision to not spend the $4.9 billion foreign aid allocation that Congress made in their 2025 budget. Just yesterday an earthquake hit Eastern Afghanistan & folks lament that your cuts will hamper their rescue efforts. Survivors of the Burmese earthquake in March continue to struggle to get back on their feet. Africans are having difficulty finding HIV/AIDS treatment. People around the world need our help.
I encourage you to adopt an abundance mindset & embrace the miracle described in the Bible when Jesus was able to feed the multitudes with 5 loaves & 2 fishes. We have more than enough to go around. Let’s be generous.
BYBS,
