Sorry to miss our letter yesterday. After a tiff with my husband & a frenzied search for my car keys, I drove to Stockton to learn about the Cambodian community there. My friend, who I advised for about 8 years as he worked on his PhD, often told me about his experiences growing up there so I wanted to see it with my own eyes. I’m so glad I did.
Pacific University’s beauty surprised me & the Southeast Asian vendors in Angel Cruz Park fascinated me. They were selling lots of unusual produce & cooking beef on skewers in various innovative ways. Most unique of all were the clams being cooked in the cabs of pickup trucks. I elected not to eat those, but they were a hot seller!
Perhaps you can join me in a visit to Angel Cruz Park to meet these enterprising people to see that you have nothing to fear from refugees.
What are you going to do for Lisa Murkowski (LAM) to thank her for enduring what she called “the most difficult & agonizing legislative 24-hour period” she has yet encountered. As you probably know she is getting all kinds of flack for supporting the BBB, especially over her remarks that it “needs more work” & is not “ready for the President’s desk.”
Thanks for listening to LAM’s request to include a tax deduction of $50,000 for “whalers”. Turns out there are approximately 150 to 160 captains who hunt bowhead whales to sustain folks in the 11 villages on the North Slope. A strict quota is developed by the AK Eskimo Whaling Commission to ensure that the species survives. The whole community shares in the work of cutting up the massive animals so whaling is not a capitalist enterprise & shouldn’t be taxed as such.
Did you include other benefits for tribal communities in the BBB?
How about funds for polio vaccinations? I’m asking about that because a three-year-old in Burma has been paralyzed by the disease & UNICEF is sounding the alarm about Afghanistan and Pakistan, the only two countries where polio remains endemic. As you well know polio spreads quickly & is devastating. We have the tools to eradicate it. Please tell RFK Jr. to get busy working on that.
Finally, please do all you can to protect the identities of the 14 pilots involved in the Operation Midnight Hammer mission. The Air Force is worried that Iran might come after them. Best to be discreet about their attendance at the Military Family Picnic today.
