Congratulations on a successful meeting with EU Pres Ursula von der Leyen (UvdL). It’s a relief to see that you are not at odds with each other. Newsweek points out that your tariff deal is not “classic trade agreement” & has “limited technical detail,” allowing for “diverging interpretations," but at least it’s an agreement! I hope UvdL has the political capital to sell it to her crew!
Have you heard of “divine obedience?” I just ran across the phrase in an article in the CSM about how Springfield G92, a coalition of churches, faith-based organizations, & community advocates, characterizes their work to support the Haitian community in Ohio. They use that term rather than civil disobedience to make it clear that they are following a leading from the higher power.
Are you led by divine obedience? My Quaker Friends would tell you that’s where your commitment to peace keeping comes from.
SoW, thanks for working on settling things down on the Cambo/Thai border. Please continue to pressure VVP, Bibi & to stop their hostilities. Too many children are being affected!
Re Burma, to understand the Burma situation better, you might consult a piece in today’s Outlook zine from India. They call the conflict, “a textbook case of post-colonial crisis, where the military, an institution that might have unified a diverse population, instead became a driver of fragmentation & authoritarianism.” It explains how the junta is “insular & opaque” & “has repeatedly exploited internal divisions” & failed to foster “a shared vision of citizenship rooted in ethnic, religious & linguistic equality.”
Perhaps you could invite MAL & Bibi to join you in a collaborative improvement science project where you collectively engage in a “plan, do, study, act “cycle to address the challenge of unifying a diverse nation to avoid communal violence. You might start by looking at Indonesia’s Pancasila principles which seem to be working pretty well.
