My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

How many workers do your establishments employ? How many of them are American citizens? What are you paying them?

These questions come to mind as I ponder the news about ICE, the H-2A visa program & the dilemma facing farmers about how they will get their produce to market.

Did you know that you Bedminster club filed a request with the Department of Labor’s Office of Foreign Labor Certification, seeking 7 cooks, a bartender & 9 servers? Are you sure you want to be hiring folks from abroad, when Americans could do those jobs? You could set an example for other restauranteurs by paying a living wage to attract more locals. Perhaps you could persuade farmers, as well. We’d have to pay more for our food, but that might be a good thing in the long run.

Speaking of immigrants, has Rep. Bill Huizenga, (R – MI, 4) told you about the Burmese refugees in Battle Creek? They have set down roots & now have a community center with a high school, pre-school & library. They host cultural events & support their community in accessing health care & education. They are eager to get H.R.3190, the BRAVE Burma Act passed, which will extend sanctions on the junta. Please see what you can do to expedite its passage.

Back to the situation with immigrants here, please tell your ICE guys to stop intimidating folks at the courthouse. Stoking fear makes you look like a bully. I know you have the strength & courage to show your gentler side. Doing so would set a wonderful example for the youth of our great nation.

            BYBS,
