My Dear Friend and President, DJT,

I have some thoughts to share about the two-state solution in Israel, but those will have to wait for another day. Please excuse me, but today I have to give you a piece of my mind.

I'm afraid that you aren't very good at empathy, my dear friend. Clearly, you don't understand how humiliating it is for a woman to talk about being taken advantage of. Being treated like an object is terrible when it happens, and we'd prefer not to think about it after the fact. You also don't realize that there are plenty of men who don't take advantage of women. They view women as equals and don't want to have physical contact unless it's mutual. So, if you are assuming that every teenage boy harasses girls, you are wrong.

I can say all this, because I grew up with a father who had what we used to call, "a dirty mind." He would announce when he saw a woman without a bra. He would make inappropriate comments about women's appearance. He liked to watch Sonny and Cher so he could make note of her latest surgery. I assumed every man's mind worked like that so I covered myself up in bulky clothing and avoided the male gaze as much as possible. I loved my dad, but I would not have wanted him serving on the Supreme Court.

Now that I'm all grown up, I know that many men look women in the eye rather than at their chest. I have learned that many men see women as people, first and foremost, rather than as members of the opposite sex. I know my husband is appalled at the stories he's hearing and wishes he had spoken up to the jerks in his high school who bragged in the locker room. Those guys were in the minority, and hopefully, we can stop normalizing their inappropriate behavior and comments.

So, the next time you have a press conference, please do not call women who claim to be sexually assaulted, "liars". Please call on the female reporters as frequently as you call on the males. Most of all, try to imagine how other people are feeling.

End of rant,

RCA
