It’s Monday. What are you going to do to enjoy the Indian Summer weather? 

Should I ride over the causeway again? Might I have another transformational experience or just another flat tire? I did find it exhilarating last time & I do need to get the exercise, so maybe I’ll give it a go.

Have you heard of Apoorva Panidapu(AP)? I hadn’t until this morning when I googled, “AI-ght.” 

BTW, have you heard of “AI-ght?” I hadn’t until I saw it on the cover of today’s NY Post which said, “It’s Gonna Be ‘AI-ght’: Trump downplays fears of machine apocalypse, says US must win tech race.”   When I asked Artificial Intelligence Claude (AIC) about “AI-ght” it said, “These search results didn't turn up anything specific about "AI-ght" as a term with identifiable usage.”

My googling revealed that AP used “AI-ght” in 2022 in a blog post explaining what AI is. The post does a brilliant job of explaining the various kinds of learning a computer can do & explaining specific concepts such as “Multi-layer perceptrons” & “Recurrent neural networks.” I thought it was written by an experienced senior scientist until I got to the parenthetical expression, “kind of like what my parents will do when they send me off to college” & realized that an adolescent had produced it.

I got intrigued continued googling only to find out that AP is amazing! She’s a whiz kid who not only has authored/co-authored six number theory publications in peer-reviewed journals but also makes math accessible to a wide audience by writing her column, Gems in STEM, raises $$ for charities by selling her artwork & has spoken to over 100,00 people.

I suggest that you appoint AP to be your chief of AI & ask her to help you understand why we have to pay attention to Dario Amodei & Sam Altman when they tell you that they are losing control of their algorithms.

OoM, as usual the news from Burma is both good & bad. They have two hospitals that are functional enough to be certified by American Accreditation Commission International as “cynically excellent,” but they are linked to MAH. The guy has his fingers in everything & it’s too bad those hospitals are tainted by his investment in them.
