My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

Are you a connoisseur of sentences? Do you pay attention to the composition of a phrase?Do you love it when an author puts words together in a way you’d never imagine? It’s not my proclivity to do so, but since I have been writing to you I have begun to appreciate beautiful prose.

I think about this, because today I will be visiting my friends, the English teachers, who immerse themselves in a community of writers every summer. They are all about the written word.

What do you think of the following sentence that I found in Maria Popovers blog, themarginalian:

“There is no damnation greater than spending our allotted days in the catatonia of comfort & certainty, our inner lives automated by habit & halogen lit by convenience.”

Do you like the word choice or do you find it a bit too contrived? Did she pack too much content into it? Did she wast words by starting with “There is?”

You might benefit from considering these issues next time you give a speech.

OoM, I’m sure that your buddy, Roger Penske (RP), will be at your Indy 500 event today. Please tell him that he needs to fire whoever came up with the “One Nation, One Race” T-shirt to advertise the upcoming Freedom 250 race in DC. I am baffled how that thing got printed & am grateful they pulled it. Given his advanced age RP might need a reminder to avoid that kind of thing in the future.

You, all, might consider canceling the whole thing. Blocking off the streets of DC so gas guzzlers can go in circles does not sit well with many.

I conclude with my usual request that you monitor the situation in Burma & look for a way to be helpful.

BYBS,
