My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

I am alarmed again. You have just declared, a “whole civilization will die tonight.” 

You have made so many threats in the past that some aren’t paying attention to this one. Many of the front pages of American newspapers did not include an article about your warning that you plan to bomb civilian infrastructure starting at 8PM tonight if Iran negotiators do not make a deal to your liking. Am I naive to believe you are willing to do that? 

As I try to find some peace of mind, I decided to explore your use of the word, “civilization” & what you might be referring to regarding Iran. Maybe, like me, you’re ignorant of the history of the Achaemenid Empire which ruled over 44% of the world’s population in 475 BCE, the highest figure for any empire in history. Their preeminent leader, Cyrus, the Great, inspired our Founding Fathers to form a multi-ethnic, multi-faith society governed by a code of rights rooted in tolerance. Is this the civilization that you plan to kill?

I implore you to change your intention to wipe Iran off the face of the Earth if they fail to abide by your wishes. Not only is it impossible to eradicate a “whole civilization,” you will be a pariah. Your actions will be akin to the “barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind” that prompted the formation of the United Nations.

Right now I’m listening to military experts, COL Ray Gerber & Dr. Ben Cannable talk about your hope to control the Straits of Hormuz (SoH) which they describe as a 650 km by 40 km zone including the Strait & coast surrounding it. They know all about tactics & can provide specific metrics about what it would take to achieve specific goals. They believe to secure the SoH would use up almost all of our amphibious force & would involve 20 years of military occupancy. While noting the absence of a calculator for how many human casualties there would be, they likened this effort to Iraq & Afghanistan in terms of the number of people killed & wounded.

Their conclusion, “decapitation strikes alone do not solve strategic problems!”

The military experts just urged everyone to consider, “what will happen next?” I urge you to do the same. Blowing up bridges just means they have to be rebuilt & we will end up footing the bill. We have enough bridges in this country in need of repair, let’s not add to the work that our civil engineers have to deal with.
