My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
As I hope you know by now, every time that I write a letter to you I am seeking connection with you. I am trying to find an antidote to the anger & hate which you are quite adept at evoking.
Today, it would be so easy to be mad at you about your negligence in letting Stephen Miller deport anyone who might be considered an “immigrant.” I put that in quotes because we are ALL immigrants. Our ancestors have always traveled the Earth looking for a better life. Even the folks who lived on this continent for millennia came here from somewhere else.
SoW, I just learned that scientists recently found 61 human footprints that are over 20,000 years old at White Sands National Park. According to the USGS, “this finding fundamentally changes the timeline on North American human habitation – turning back the clock of human arrival in the Americas nearly 10,000 years.” Scientists are still researching where these folks came from, but we do know that the oldest human remains found in Jebel Irhoud are 300,000 years old, so it took humans a long time to find our continent.
Back to my temptation to be mad at you today, I am profoundly disturbed by the stories I have heard in the last 24 hours including one about Daniela Valladares Hernandez, who arrived here from Honduras at age 6, & went on to graduate magna cum laude from Cornell. She never committed a crime & is now facing deportation. Another situation involves Maria de Jesús Estrada Juárez who has been here for 27 years & was arrested after showing up for her deportation hearing. Finally, I am troubled by the news that “the US Department of Homeland Security sent emails to Afghan refugees demanding they leave the country within seven days or risk deportation & legal penalties.”
Clearly your administration’s deportation policies are harmful to us all & need to stop! Instead of calling you out, I’m calling you in to tell you “immigrants” make us stronger. Your mom was one, so you already know that. Immigrants do not present a danger & you are wasting our tax payer $$$$ sending them away!!!!
According to Loretta Ross, when I call you in I should “value fellowship over fracture,” so today I identified a new trait we have in common, specifically that we are are both “dabblers.” I hope to have time to expand on what that means in another letter on another day. I will also expand on why it’s a terrible idea for the US to invest in Spirit Airlines, elaborate on how Qatar no longer trusts us & help you understand that Bibi needs to stop killing journalists.
I will close as usual with a reminder that the people of Burma are suffering & would love to know that you are aware of their plight.
BYBS,
