My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

I’m not sure what to say to help you make sense of your loss yesterday. Maybe, words won’t ameliorate the feelings you have. 

I assume you are cycling through the stages of grief described by E Kübler-Ross, specifically denial, anger, bargaining, depression, & acceptance. Of course, being the unique individual that you are, you express these emotions in a distinctive manner. Before I identify how you have demonstrated each of them in the past 12 hours, I must specify that your grief is from losing the overwhelming love you felt in the election of 2024. 

I hear denial in your Truth Social Post where you wrote, “I wasn’t on the Ballot & if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!”

I hear anger when you lashed out at Fox saying you couldn’t “stand Jessica Tarlov’s voice,” that their poll was “always the worst” & that their ratings were down “not because of me, but because they are AGAINST me!”

I hear bargaining when you told CBS the “Democrats are in control, but they’re really not in control.”

I noted that you are laying low today, an indicator of the depression that must be washing over you.

I noted acceptance when you told CBS, “"My message is, congratulations to the Democrats, & I look forward to working with you for the good of our country,””

According to Mary-Frances O’Connor who studies the neuroscience of grieving, your posterior cingulate cortex is breaking neurological bonds each time you reflect on how your MAGA fans failed to show up for you when you asked them to.

I think you are right when you say, “they didn’t like the candidates.” I hope you can also acknowledge that they don’t like paying high prices for gas & they want us out of Iran.

I appreciate that you have not resorted to election denial this time. Don’t let any of your people talk you into it in the next few days.

Eventually your grief will subside & you can celebrate that our democracy worked as it should. I  hope that some day the people of Burma can participate in the same kind of free & fair election that we had yesterday.
