My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Today is your big day!!! USA Today says it’s your “reckoning.” Washington Times claims your “presidency is on the line.” The G asserts it’s a “referendum on your agenda.” You must be on pins & needles! I know I am.
Your schedule indicates you will be distracting yourself with some meetings, including one with our “Ambassador to Portugal.” What’s up with that? Are you planning to talk to John Arrigo (JJA) about golf or something more substantial? Are you worried that the US is following in the Portugal’s footsteps by turning away from populist sentiments & getting back to wanting a truly democratic government? Since JJA only graduated with an Associates degree, I’m not sure he can provide you with much insight into Portuguese politics. Since he’s good at advertising cars, he’ll at least keep you entertained for a bit.
OoM, no matter what happens tomorrow, please remember that WINTA!!! Renewed aggression in Iran will not solve anything.
As you launch into a new stage of your presidency tomorrow, perhaps it will be best for everyone if you continue to spend your time focused on building monuments in DC. You find the details fascinating. You manage to expedite projects. While I am not a fan of your style, I think we’ll all be better off if you spend your time immersed in architectural matters rather than other aspects of administering the government.
If you do find some time for diplomacy, please turn your attention to Burma. An article in today’s Irrawaddy points out that XJ has misread the situation there by assuming that the junta can stabilize things. The article points out that XJ will have to navigate the democratic aspirations in Burma & noting, “that does not mean importing a Western political model wholesale, nor would such a model be easily transplanted.” His deputies haven’t spoken with MAH lately, so XJ may be developing a new strategy for Burma. I suggest you do the same.
May we both Keep Calm & Carry On today.
Tomorrow will certainly be a new day!
BYBS,
