My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

Do you know about Elijah? We happened upon him in First Day School yesterday. We opened our Beginner’s Bible to a random page & read about how he went into the hinterlands when a drought hit the Israelites. Eventually he ran out of food & he met a widow. She only had a bit of flour & oil which wasn’t enough for herself & her son. Elijah told her to feed him anyway & somehow, her food supply was sufficient to sustain him, her son & her.

Somehow our reading led to a discussion of the children’s relationship with God. When it was the 8-year olds turn to talk, he said, “how can I have a relationship with God, when I don’t even know myself?” How profound is that?

After that, we played Twister.

I wonder how many stories like this are in the Bible. I know of at least two others - manna from heaven in Exodus & loaves/fishes in Matthew. They fit with the idea that God will provide & we can adopt a mindset of abundance.

Are you preaching that when you try to convince folks that they shouldn’t worry so much about the price of gas? Does prosperity theology drive you so much that you believe people with health conditions could get better if they prayed more?

I ask about health care because according to today’s AP, you are losing voters who are facing daunting medical bills. They note that “half of registered voters said healthcare costs are a major problem for them & their families,” yet you aren’t talking about addressing this.

OoM, when you go to Corinth, MS today, I encourage you to stop by the Corinth Contraband Camp, which was set up by the Union Army so formerly enslaved people who had a refuge when they left their plantations after Lincoln issued the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. They set up farms & schools under the protection of the Union Army. Visiting there might help you better understand the complexity of US history.

Regarding Burma, the Irrawaddy reports that farmers aren’t getting enough $$ for their rice crop. That does not bode well.

BYBS,
