My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

What’s up with sending 3 Aegis guided-missile destroyers to the waters off Venezuela? Is that the best use of 4,000 sailors & Marines? No doubt Nicolás Maduro (NMM) is a lousy leader who has made his country much worse over the 12 years of his leadership. According to Human Right Watch he’s running his country like a dictator & most people don’t believe he won the election in July, 2024. Freedom House gives Venezuela a score of 15/100 with a 1/40 for political rights. Your assessment that he is a narco-trafficker seems accurate.

Even with all this, why send the destroyers? Why not send the Coast Guard? Aren’t they the folks that do our counter-drug operations? They’ve got the nimbler equipment needed to intercept the speedboats used to ship drugs.

I’m worried that this move may strengthen NMM’s power distracting his opposition. He’s talking about deploying his militia of 4.5 million.

Please reconsider your idea to use National Guard soldiers to police the streets of DC. They are not trained to keep the peace among citizens. They are trained to kill people. It’s likely one of those soldiers will make a misguided decision during a non-violent protest & people will blame you for the death of an innocent person. You will recall that something like that happened in Naypyidaw in Feb, 20-21, when 19-year-old Mya Thwe Thwe Khaing was caught in machine gun fire during a an anti-coup protest. According to Wikipedia, the violent use of force in her shooting sparked national outrage, with celebrities criticizing her treatment. Best to let police handle situations in DC.
