My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Please send my condolences to the people of Kerr County. While it is always tempting to lay blame when disasters happen, please avoid doing so. The flooding is a natural event, made worse by climate change. We can learn from it, so we are better prepared for the next one, but for now we need to acknowledge the trauma so many people are experiencing rather than getting mad about something.
As you recognize suffering, please acknowledge the generational trauma caused by the Bosnian Genocide in Srebrenica that happened 30 years ago when over 8000 Muslim men & boys were massacred under the leadership of General Ratko Mladić. According to the BBC, tensions among ethnic groups in the former Yugoslavia are heating up again & some are denying the Genocide ever happened. An expression of our condolences for those who lost loved ones in 1995 might help ease their angst & apprehensions.
On another matter, what do you think of Gen Min Aung Hlaing’s note expressing “sincere appreciation” for the letter he got about the 40% tariffs that will be placed on Burmese products entering the US? Did you realize that he’d focus on the public recognition you were giving him, rather than the expense of the tariff? Please remember that his troops are accused of the same kind of genocide that the Serbs committed & they continue to persecute minorities all over their country. Please tell the world that you are not a fan of such activities & do not support MAL’s futile aggression against his own people.
Did you see the piece in the CSM that says your credo is, “waging wars is far easier than ending them. And winning, in any meaningful sense, is harder yet – even if, in purely military terms, you have the upper hand?” Is it accurate when it claims you “hope they ultimately recognize that the longer the conflicts grind on, the greater the risk of political defeat?” I hope so!
