My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,

            I am curious about this Project Homecoming initiative you are working on to incentivize those who lack legal documentation to fly back to their previous residence. I’m not convinced by the narrative that we have been “invaded” by “aliens.” To me that evokes an image of spaceships & green creatures with one eye & skinny, long limbs. I have not seen anyone who looks like that in my neighborhood, so I am not feeling assaulted.

            I do encounter people who were born all over the world & I feel enriched by these encounters. I don’t want to return to the homogenized environment in which I was raised, where the only differences between us was where we worshipped. Not only was it boring, it was stifling! Conformity to a narrow set of expectations ruled the day. As a female, I found it particularly restrictive.

Imagine my chagrin when I heard SM talking about “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, the right to challenge a person’s detention by the government, for migrants, because we are being invaded. Please tell him that narrative is from 1933 & does not sit well.

            I am thrilled that you helped India & Pakistan with their cease fire!!! As you & I both know, WINTA!!! Please discuss with the World Bank guy, Ajay Banga, how to get your buddy, NBM to abide by the Indus Water Treaty. According to Chattam House, “the Indus basin supplies 80% of Pakistan’s irrigated agriculture, a sector worth roughly 25 per cent of GDP & employing 65% of the labour force. Tens of millions of people rely on the rivers’ waters for their livelihoods & survival.” It’s a miracle that the treaty is as old as I am. Best not to mess with it.

            Speaking of things not to mess with, please restore USAID before it’s too late. It helped keep the peace all over the world. It enabled reporters to speak truth to power in places like Burma, where, according to AJ, “currently, 35 journalists remain imprisoned making it the world’s third-worst jailer of journalists after China & Israel. The brave folks keeping Shwe Phee Myay alive in the Shan State need our help to keep the flow of information alive. Please help.
