My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT, 

What are you up to as Dec begins? This AM, we’re entertaining old friends who migrated to Holland from Davis about 5 years ago. Both are extremely bright, progressive thinkers. I am curious about whether they ever plan to return to the US or if they believe their prospects are better in the EU. I worry that the anti-science stance of your admin is chasing folks like them away. If so, best to change that rhetoric so we don’t lose any more of our best & brightest. 

If you have a minute, please call Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi (CF) to express your concern about the Sat night shooting that killed 3 children & an adult at a giant birthday party for a 2-year-old. CF has to navigate the challenge of upholding her city as a livable place while acknowledging the gang issues that in all likelihood catalyzed this tragedy. Like you, CF has first-hand experience with gun violence. Her home was hit by stray bullets in Oct. I encourage you to restore funding for gang violence prevention programs such as Youth ALIVE! in Oakland which is a hospital-based program that provides support to youth who have been shot, helping them recover & preventing retaliatory violence. They served 113 clients in 2024 only one of whom was reinjured. De-escalation is the key.  

SoW, please remind Sec. Hegseth that WINTA! He might be particularly belligerent right now that he’s in the spotlight for allegedly telling his subordinates to “"kill everybody" on board the vessel that SEAL Team 6 attacked on Sept. 2. He might benefit from a “time out” so he can get his wits about him & not let his anger spark more misguided decisions.
