My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Where were you yesterday when the Christmas tree arrived at the WH? I saw photos of Melania posing in her plaid high heels in front of the horse drawn wagon, but you were nowhere to be seen. I assume some important matter came up which prevented your participation.
Will you be able to get away from the oval office to pardon Waddle & Gobble at noon or will you be too busy with “latest developments” contributing to a “frenetic moment” at the WH? The AP says this is a “a turbulent & uncertain chapter” for you. Isn’t that the way you live your life? Always on the go? Always trying out something new? Ready to turn on a dime?
I hope you’ll use your time in Palm Beach to reconsider many of the initiatives your team is pursuing including:
1) Threatening Venezuela with continued harassment. The “Cartel de Sol” is not an organization. It doesn’t have members, meetings or a hierarchy. It’s a nickname Venezuelans use to refer to high-ranking military officers who have grown rich from drug-running. Best to stop using this moniker. Cocaine does not pose a threat to America even better would be to let go of this endeavor.
2) Terminating the designation of Burma for Temporary Protected Status relief. Burma continues to be in upheaval with the junta bombing civilians & detaining anyone who questions their legitimacy. It is not a safe place. The Karen community in St Paul will be devastated by this news. Please do not ruin the holidays for the families who have found refuge in the US.
3) Attacking the Congress people who reminded the military about the obligations to only pursue legal actions. I don’t need to explain this one, do I?
Have you heard of “self-compassion?” You might use it as a Thanksgiving conversation starter & invite family members to take Kristin Neff’s assessment of it. It involves being your own best friend, especially when suffering or screwing up. She writes that it is “(a) powerful way to alleviate suffering that is accessible to anyone at any moment. It can be learned & practiced, & it is not rocket science.” It might help you get through your rough spots.
