My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

How was yesterday’s mass at Brandywine? Did the priest talk about the “prayer of the week” that appears in this week’s bulletin? I am particularly intrigued with the lines that say, “amid the uncertainties of this world, our hearts may be fixed on that place where true gladness is found.” This reminds me of my recent ruminations on joy. I experience it when I can forget the future & my eventual demise, am released from consciousness of myself & bask in the glory of life. It doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. I’d love to know if you experience that kind of moment.

I hope you are enjoying a lovely day in DE. I had fun going on a “bat tour” with my future co-housing neighbors last night. We witnessed the “batnadoes” when thousands of bats fly out from their roost under the highway. Their home is a stretch of elevated road that goes over the Yolo Bypass, the largest wetland restoration in the West which also holds water from the Sacramento River during flood season. It’s dry now, but there are still plenty of bugs for the bats to eat.

Speaking of bats, in 2020, before the coup, scientists found some new viruses in bats in Burma – all are zoonotic, meaning they can spread to humans. If we can get things calmed down there we can do more research to see how widespread these infections might be. You could start by recognizing the National Unity Government. AMM3 has lots of ideas about this so I encourage you to be in touch with him.

            BYBS,
