My Dear Friends & POTUS, JRB,

Today please commemorate the 33rd anniversary of 8-8-88 when thousands of people protested military rule in Myanmar & 3000 were killed for doing so. A Tweet from you will provide encouragement to the brave folk who continue to resist the rule of the junta now.

What do you know about cryptocurrency? I don’t know much, beyond the fact that it is a “thing” & its nascent lobbying force is busy interfering with the Infrastructure Bill.  According to the WP it is “a medium of exchange that allows people to transfer value to others without needing a government overseeing it or a financial institution acting as a middleman,” & Mark Cuban is getting in on it. I hope that efforts to regulate it don’t scuttle the whole bill. AMM seems to be in compromise mode, so I hope the effort can keep moving forward.

Part of the debate is whether or not cryptocurrency is a commodity or a security & whether or not the SEC or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission should be overseeing transactions. The rather subtle distinction between these two types of assets eluded me until well into adulthood & I am the daughter of a commodities trader, so my guess is that most Americans could care less.

Do you think of bread as a commodity? Most Americans do & unfortunately, many French do as well. They are buying their baguettes at the chain grocery stores putting the corner bakeries out of business. I was encouraged to see in the CSM that some creative folks are working to revive the bread baking tradition by making more distinctive loaves. One guy is using a solar powered bread oven which he has to manually rotate every 10 minutes & another guy is making pain d’hier et de demain, which involves recycling old bread. Unfortunately, I’m not eating much bread anymore. Too many carbs for my pre-diabetic body to handle.

Did you watch the women’s basketball team dominate Japan to win their 7th gold medal? Brittney Griner is amazing!

            BYBS,
