My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

Easter is a wonderful reminder that the world changes – that darkness turns to light, the snow melts & roses bloom again. Hope prevails.

Christ the Lord is Risen today. Alleluia!

Raise your joys and triumphs high

What do you think happened to Jesus after he died? I have trouble believing that he literally rose from the dead. I do believe that his message stuck with his followers & that his courage inspired them to carry on in his absence, but I don’t think that his body came back to life. I hope there’s an afterlife, but I’m not counting on it. Being able to get into heaven isn’t what motivates me to try to be my best self. I just find myself easier to live with when I make good choices & take risks to make the world a better place. I hope I am getting braver every day.

I rode the rollercoaster of emotion this morning as my heart broke to read in the NYT about 10-year-old, Aye Myat Thu, killed in her front yard in Mawlamyine, Burma by a sniper. I grieve for her family & also for the soldier traumatized by his cowardice. Later, I got a chuckle to see in the Guardian that the protestors in Burma put their messages on Easter eggs. Those young folks keep surprising me with their quirky sense of humor, their resilience & their commitment.

I hope you continue to be brave as you try to make the world a better place.

HYITL,
