MDF&P, JRB,

How’s Camp David? Did you invite JM3 to join you so you could talk him into voting for BBB? Have you been able to recover from that pesky cold you got from Baby Hunter? You will need all of the energy you can get for your busy schedule this week.

Tonight’s event at the Kennedy Center should be fun! It’s a good thing that Berry Gordy is finally being recognized for getting Motown started back in the ‘60s. At 91-years-old, our time to celebrate his accomplishments with him is limited. I hope Steven Sondheim can somehow feel all the love being expressed about him & his work. I’ve learned more about him this week than I learned about him in his lifetime.

Have you heard the idea that we have 3 lives: the one that we experience ourselves, the one that lives on in all of the people who knew us personally & the one that lives on whenever someone says our name? According to that theory, Jesus, Shakespeare & Cleopatra live on & probably will continue to do as long as there are people on Earth. Being one of those forever people may be your destiny. I don’t think it’s mine.

Back to your busy schedule – I’m sure Reps Emanuel Cleaver & Sherice Davids (SLD) will be happy to welcome you to KC this week to celebrate the $79 million KC will receive to fix their H2O & wastewater systems. Hopefully, this federal spending will help SLD keep her seat. SLD is tweeting about letting Medicare negotiate prescription prices. I hope we can find a way to make that happen.

During your busy week, you might take the opportunity to do as Jamelle Bouie suggests in his Op-Ed piece today & “seize the attention of the media & force a conversation that happens on your terms, with your aims in mind.” You could do this by shining a light on the injustices faced by Black folk. Start by pardoning Marcus Garvey & when you are in KC, arrange to meet Kevin Strickland, the guy who served 43 yrs in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

Continue to pray for Myanmar.
