Dear Friend, DJT,

“Environmental protection is a sacred obligation.” How wonderful that you said those words yesterday! While you may not have uttered “climate change,” it’s a start. I understand that you declared a halt to drilling off the shore of FL. That is also a start. Perhaps tomorrow you could ban drilling all over the country. Now that would be a radical departure – but that’s what we need right now. Don’t you think?

I am pondering a radical departure myself. These fires have me spooked. Today, it’s gloomy at 8:05 AM with an orange tinge to the smokey air. There’s ash all over my table so I can only imagine what’s happening to my lungs. I tend to worry about my lungs since my dad died of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis – scarring to the alveolus for unknown reasons. If my alveoli get scarred, I’ll attribute it to climate change.

I am considering whether to move back to WI, where my BFF lives, or to VA where many in my family live or maybe to KC, where my daughter is. When I ponder each possibility. I think of the demographics of each place & decide that I prefer it here. We’ve got multilingual folks of all complexions, religions & political persuasions. Like many suburbanites, I love this diversity. So, for the time being, I’ll stay put.

In other matters, I encourage you to help everyone understand that the delay in AstraZeneca’s vaccine trial is a good thing. It shows that the system is working as it should. The vaccine could make people sick & we need to know if that’s the case before we inject millions of people with it. Better safe than sorry – don’t you think?

I just learned that you have a new tennis pavilion at the WH. It sounds lovely, even if a copper roof is a bit extravagant. If Serena Williams wins the US Open, you can invite her to DC to rally with you.
