I was surprised to see your tweet about your virtual worship session at St. Patrick’s Cathedral this morning so I decided to tune in myself. I’m sure it must pain Archbishop Timothy Dolan (TMD) & all those other priests to perform their rituals in an empty cathedral. Even so, they put on a great show, with all their shiny, fancy Liturgical objects. Wasn’t the voice of the singer, wonderful?

I found the message of the morning deeply moving. Hearing about Cleopus and how he was so wrapped up in his confusion over Jesus’ crucifixion that he didn’t recognize Jesus when he showed up on the road to Emmaus. I could relate to Cleopus’ running away, trying to escape his sorrows rather than embracing them & inspired by the idea that I should instead think of my troubles as “redemptive suffering” & look deep within to find a new path. When I do, I will be accompanied.

When I googled TMD I was surprised to see a photo of you with him & HDRC in Oct. 2016 laughing together at the Al Smith Dinner for Catholic Charity. He claims to have heard you tell Hillary that she was “one tough & talented woman.” I hope that’s true & not just TMD trying to make peace.

I encourage you to spend more time with TMD. He’s so diplomatic & exudes generosity, forgiveness & love. We could use more of that kind of presence in our lives.

            Peace be with you,

            RCA

PS – Please send my best wishes to Melania for her birthday.
