My dear Friend, DJT,

The wait continues. I am doing my best to stay calm. I hope you are, too. According to Clara Jeffery, “the entire country is waiting for a biopsy result,” which has some people biting their nails & other people staying in bed. It’s got you saying & tweeting some crazy stuff which would be funny if you weren’t the POTUS. My favorite one is, “Votes cannot be cast after the Poles are closed.” I like that one because it could have been written by one of several Ambroses who have trouble spelling & often mis-speak. I know you are eager to have this over, but declaring victory for yourself won’t make it so.

I can’t find your schedule today which suggests that you aren’t quite sure what to do, now that the rallies are over. Charlie Warzel opines in the NYT that we could engage in “defensive pessimism” where we dare not hope for our desired outcome, which is different from “bracing for the worst.” I like his advice to find an activity which provides a sense of control & agency. So, I have put a pork shoulder into the Instapot which is now perfuming the house with scents of garlic.

I am relieved that voting went smoothly yesterday & am fascinated by the characters that will be freshmen in the House in Jan. Cori Bush will be the 1st Black woman to represent MO. Ritchie Torres will be the 1st Afro-Latino gay male in Congress & 25-year old, Madison Cawthorn, will be the youngest GOPer to ever serve there. While I admire his tenacity for turning his paralyzing car crash into a Congressional seat, his fascination with Hitler is disturbing.

Our country is a beguiling place & I hope we can hold it together.

            BYBS,

            RCA
