My dear Friend, DJT,

I voted yesterday. I like to exercise my franchise in person so I don’t have to worry about whether or not my signature has changed, or whether the mail will get there in time, or whether someone might tamper with the ballot box. I rode my bike the half-mile over to Patwin Elementary where 6 poll workers welcomed me, invalidated the blank mail-in ballot that I happened to bring along, had me sign a tablet, gave me a ballot & a permanent marker that I got to keep & sent me to a booth that had been recently sanitized. 2 other voters were exercising their franchise, too, so most of the 12 voting booths were empty, so we enjoyed plenty of social distance. I marked both sides of my ballot & deposited it in the drop box, got my sticker & was on my way. I doubt I caught CV. I wish every voter had it so easy.

Isn’t it exciting to see so many people voting this year? According to the NYT college-aged kids are surmounting every barrier put in their way so they can mark a ballot. The Guardian reported on the students of NC A&T, the HBC that used to have a Congressional District boundary running right through campus, where one student said, “As African Americans we pride ourselves in voting, because that’s what our ancestors fought for.” So, it seems that the GOP voter suppression efforts seem to be back-firing. You know how kids are. The more you try to control them, the more they resist.

Won’t it be nice if we can get the results by Tues? Perhaps the results will be so obvious that we won’t have to wait around for OH & NC to finish the election process. Democracy works best when everyone participates & feels that their vote counts, so it’s important that we be patient. Don’t you think?

            HYITL,
