I am confused, horrified and bereft after learning about the stabbing incident last night at the Hanukah party in Rockland County, NY - confused because the attacker does not look like the stereotypical neo-Nazi, white supremacist so I have a hard time imagining his motives, horrified because the five victims were just about to light the Menorah with their hearts open and spirits full of hope and love, and bereft because I don’t know what to do.

I’m sure you feel the same way which would explain why you haven’t tweeted about this yet. Batya Ungar-Sargon’s opinion piece in today’s Forward helped me a little. She referred to words from a song typically sung during the candle lighting which includes the verse,” Our salvation takes too long, and there is no end to the bad days.” Sadly, the bad days are back and she attributes this to an upsurge in conspiracy theories including the idea about “secretive Jewish power.” She also noted you are a conspiracy theorist. I encourage you to start setting a better example so that we can do as MK Ofer Kasif suggests and “overcome the current tsunami of racial hatred.”

Please listen to your better angels,
