My dear Friend and President, DJT,

Thanks for sending your warm condolences to the Cummings family on the passing of their beloved Elijah (EEC) on Thursday. I wish you had been kinder to him when he was alive, but I think he will forgive you when you meet again on the other side. That's the kind of guy he was "always ready for reconciliation" so you can look forward to that when the time comes.

When he joined the House in 1996 he recited a profound poem which we would be wise to abide by. He said, “'I only have a minute, 60 seconds in it, forced upon me, I did not choose it, but I know that I must use it, give account if I abuse it, suffer if I lose it. Only a tiny little minute, but eternity is in it.'” The poem was written by Benjamin Elijah Mays, a civil rights leader who was president of Morehouse College in Atlanta from 1940 to 1967.

You will be called upon to be your best when you visit his casket in Statuary Hall in the Capitol next week. While EEC may have been keen on the impeachment inquiry, his quest wasn't about you, it was about protecting democracy. I'm sure you can respect that.

I was shocked to hear about AMM's editorial in the WP, "withdrawing from Syria is a grave mistake." Have you spoken with him about his worries that we are abandoning the "mantle of global leadership" which will be a "strategic nightmare for our country?" Do you think AMM is trying to distance himself from you? Perhaps it's time for a reconciliation.

            Peace,
