My dear Friend and President, DJT,

Happy New Year! Another opportunity for a fresh start. I hope you can spread some optimism today!

Did you watch the Rose Bowl Parade? It's a family tradition in my husband's family to watch the whole thing and I'm always glad I did. I sometimes get choked up seeing the high school bands strutting their stuff.  This year, 2 bands from Mercer Island, WA and Pickerington, OH reached out to Banda Escolar de Guayanilla in Puerto Rico helping to fund their trip because Hurricane Maria wiped away the spare $ families were going to use to send their kids to participate. It's too bad the Chinese American Heritage Foundation float had a malfunction and clogged up the parade route.  I was excited to learn that the Rose Queen, Lousie Siskel, is a budding scientist and proud of her Jewish heritage and her bisexuality. She wore her glasses on the float. Isn't it amazing that we are such a prosperous country that we can spend $11.5 million building 46 floats with rose petals, black beans and flax seeds?

I encourage you to reach out to Lila Johnson, age 71, who is a contract worker at the Dept. of Ag. building. According to the WSJ she's worried about how she's going to pay her bills. Her Union, 32BJ SEIU, wants you to know that they are adversely affected by the shutdown. Moreover, since many of their members are immigrants, they aren't too thrilled about border walls either. Lila could use some help.

 Have a great day!
