My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
What canst thou say?
This question electrified Margaret Fell when she heard George Fox (GF) say it on his 1652 visit to Ulverston. He wanted everyone to find the still, small voice to guide them to truth, love & wholeness.
That question weighs on my mind on this heavy day when we face the tragic death of Charlie Kirk (CJK) & the memory of the terrible events of 2001. The recurrence of violence leaves me speechless & I feel led to find the Light within to help me navigate this world where people try to deal with problems by ending lives.
GF preached that we can’t kill the devil with a gun or a sword. You reminded me this last night when you said that CJK’s “assassin tried to silence him with a bullet, but he failed.” I’m not calling CJK a devil, rather noting that violence never changes hearts or minds.
I share your sentiment that “this is a dark moment for America,” & appreciated your point that we need to “confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree.” I’m afraid that you sometimes succumb to the impulse to dehumanize your opponents & am hopeful that this event will fuel your commitment to resist this inclination.
Hatred & anger are the natural reactions when we experience harm. Jesus invited us to turn the other cheek rather than fight back. The world will be a better place when we can all figure out how to do that.
As usual, I ask that you include Burma on your list of peace keeping initiatives & as you do so, keep in mind that WINTA.
BYBS,
