My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Are you physically fit? Do you keep track of your steps on your phone?
These queries came to mind after I read that RFKJ that “wearables are a key to the MAHA agenda” & every American will be “wearing a wearable within four years.” Count me out!
I have always been wary of wearables! Ever since I saw Dick Tracy talking to his watch on TV, I have been queasy about the idea that anyone could reach me at any time. Even as a kid I valued my solitude & independence. The only poem that I could recite from memory started with “I’m hiding, I’m hiding & no one knows where.”
Not only am I uneasy about being tracked, I am also averse to an overemphasis on data. I don’t need a pedometer to tell me whether I have moved around enough in a day. I don’t need a ECG app to tell me that my heart is beating. As Rebecca Rolland warned in Pscychology Today, I don’t want to be one of those people who miss out on life because I am too busy monitoring it.
The potential for government surveillance should compel everyone to avoid continuously collecting a bunch of data about themselves that others can access. As Andew Crawford of the Center for Democracy & Technology points out, “data collected could show, for instance, if people traveled out of state to access abortion care that isn’t legal in their home state.” I find that concerning!
As you can tell Orwell’s prophesy about Big Brother is haunting me. I don’t want to feel that someone is observing me & potentially misconstruing my activities. Please do everything you can to prevent excessive monitoring of civilians in the USA.
Too many people around the world live with the fear that they are being spied on. The Burmese have been grappling with that since colonial times & have somehow maintained their hope for independence & democracy. Please don’t be misled by MAH’s latest move to lift the state of emergency to pave the way for an election. It will not be a free & fair election so the results will be erroneous.
BYBS,
