My Dear Friend & POTUS, DJT,
Are you still on a high after your visit to Israel & Egypt? Did you see Fox’s coverage of your handshake with Emmanuel Macron (EJFM)? They called it “weirdly long.” I like to think you offered to help him deal with his political crisis rather than believing the speculations that you were threatening him.
How do you keep track of so many people & the political situations they face? According to sociologists, we can have relationships with about 150 people. Given that the total number of countries on Earth is around 200, you are stretched way beyond most people’s social capacity just in the realm of international politics let alone national politics.
I worry that in trying to make so many different people happy, you end up stepping on toes. For example, the $20 billion peso/dollar swap you just made with Argentina Pres. Javier Milei might get him off the hook for the time being, but I hope you know people like North Dakota Representative Julie Fedorchak are furious. She called the deal “a bitter pill for North Dakota soybean farmers to swallow” since Argentina’s farmers are selling to China when US farmers can’t.
Fortune Magazine reports that this Argentinian deal was inspired by Steve H. Hanke’s theories about “dollarization.” When I tried to learn what that was all about, I got confused when I read a Nasdaq piece about the movement toward “de-dollarization” & China’s efforts to strike at the heart of the petrodollar system. The piece also noted the role of sanctions, gold & crypto currency. Do you understand how all these systems interact?
I find it challenging & I like math. The average American probably has no idea & may need help understanding why you just traded billions of dollars for pesos when the pesos will probably worth less tomorrow than their worth today.
Speaking of currency exchange, the situation in Burma is a mess! The junta set the rate at 2,100 kyats per dollar in 2022 & hasn’t changed it since then, even though inflation is over 20%. AI says, “this system allows the junta to profit from the difference between the official rate and the market rate... These funds are used to finance the military's war effort.” I hope you can persuade MAH to change this situation.
BYBS,
