My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

            It’s a foggy morn here in Davis. I am treasuring my view past the giant pecan tree onto our green where dogs play fetch. I will have a new view in a month or so. Not as serene, but I have faith that when I stare at it, words for these letters will occur to me & my letter writing practice will be born anew.

            According to an AP video, folks at Saint John’s the Baptist were thrilled with your visit. What did Dr. Jamey O. Graham, SR preach about? Did he encourage folks to fast or talk about how “there is a King in you?” He greatly appreciated that you chose his church for your visit & gave a shout out to the previous pastor’s Civil Rights efforts. Resdient Edith Johnson noted that she didn’t care about your gaffes or your age, she appreciated what you have done.  

            I encourage you to take a look at Chris Whipple’s piece in today’s NYT. He suggests that your “campaign needs to overhaul its message” by acknowledging that prices are higher now, but you have a plan to bring them down. As your guy, Ron Klain says, “campaigns are about the future. They’re not rewards for good behavior.”

            Please stay abreast of the situation in Burma.  They may be at an “inflection point” (as you like to say). The G reports, “Three years after the military seized power in a coup, defectors report dire morale as the regime suffers humiliating losses of men & arms, with even generals surrendering to the rebels.”
