JRB,

We are in the year of 8 x 11 x 23, so according to my calculations, this will be an extraordinary year. Let’s hope it’s YOUR year!

The Rose Bowl Parade is on as I write. My husband’s family watched it every year & we continue to do so. These floats are extraordinary, nothing like the tissue paper contraption built by pep club in our driveway in 1976 for a football game.

Honda America’s float is 1st in the lineup. It’s showing off “Extraordinary Innovations,” including “Jet Echelon”, the next-generation business jet, elevating efficiency to new heights while also delivering premium comfort & convenience.”

Did you see Halper & Olorunnipa’s piece in today’s WP where they point out that the US “is producing so much oil that it has undermined the influence of OPEC.” They quote, Jamie Henn, founder of Fossil Free Media, warning “(our) record oil production stands in the way of the energy transition … An ‘all of the above approach’ leads to flip-flopping on fossil fuels. It is bad policy, & also bad politics.” What say you?

Did you now that renal disease affects 1 out of 7 Americans? The Kidney Foundation wants to get the word out so people get tested. The One Legacy float advertises organ donation & kidneys top the list of organs transplanted. Kidneys fail when they have too much glucose to filter & dialysis costs Medicare a fortune, so let’s make 2024 the year of the kidney & get the word out about eating better.

The Cal Poly float is on now. Students designed & built it. Fantastic!

Fort Lauderdale is getting 3 minutes of free advertising with Alexander Star

singing about Laudy Dayo & a float spewing colorful smoke.

We will not be seeing a float or band from Burma this year. Their New Year celebrations will be quite muted. Fireworks do not delight when civilians have grown accustomed to hearing bombs fly through air. WINTA!
