Happy MLK Day Eve,

            I have 14 minutes to write this note, because I would like to watch today’s service at Ebenezar Baptist Church where you will be giving some remarks. The G speculates you will focus on voting rights. I hope you also evoke MLK’s commitments to changing the social order & peace. I’ll be thrilled if you mention Ghandi, too.

            Are you ecstatic about the poll, from The Economist and YouGov? I expect that you are over the moon about the positive job approval rating of 50% among registered voters, against 47 % disapproving. Likewise, U.VA Prof Russell Riley’s analysis about how POTUSs navigate divided governments must also bring a smile. The G quoted him as saying that “a hostile Republican House could prove an effective foil for Biden should he seek a second term.” Congrats on this positive press.

            Have your people kept you up to date on how Burma’s NUG is funding itself? Did you know that “the shadow government has earned 3 billion kyat (US$1.43 million) from collecting taxes in 38 out of 330 townships across Myanmar, where resistance groups are in control…(&) will soon legalize an initial coin offering to put cryptocurrencies at the center of its finance plan while accepting fixed deposits in the form of money transfers and cryptocurrency deposits in a bank that will be set up soon.”  This is all coming from an article in today’s South China Morning Post where Tin Tun Naing, NUG minister for planning, finance and investment is extensively quoted. It gives me hope that the NUG has its act together & is ready to get $$ moving in Burma. The crypto aspect of the plan is a bit risky, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
