My Dear Friend & POTUS, JRB,

Today’s high will be 108. Yesterday’s was 111. We are doing our best to stay cool & not use too much electricity. For the past couple of days, we’ve lost power during the peak of the heat. Even though it’s supposed to cool down soon, the air quality is going to deteriorate due to the Mosquito Fire in Placer County. I’m not sure I want to spend another September in Davis.

            I hope you have fun at the groundbreaking of the new chip factory today. WSYX, the Columbus ABC station, has been talking about your visit all morning. Apparently, INTEL delayed today’s ceremony until after CHIPs passed because the factory was not a sure thing without those federal $$.

I didn’t see any discussion of environmental impacts, but we both know that to get those rooms “clean” they use all sorts of toxic chemicals. Fingers crossed INTEL will be a good citizen & protect the health of the flora, fauna & people who live in Licking County.

            Isn’t it sad that QE2 died? She served an interesting function for the Brits – a steady presence. It’s too bad that she passed on just when they need her calm optimism. Did you see that recent photo taken of her as she awaited the arrival of Liz Truss in the drawing room at Balmoral Castle holding her trusty purse? I speculate that her personal kryptonite was in that handbag so she had to keep it at her side at all times.

It was kind of you to take the time to go over to the embassy to sign her condolence book. Do you think Charles is ready to step up his game?

            I am hopeful that he will continue to champion the cause of the people in Burma as he did in his New Year’s message this year when he requested, we "take a moment to recognize those standing up for freedom and human rights around the world.” I hope you will join him in championing that cause as well.
