Dear Friend,

I was with the 5th graders again yesterday. They used the pennies to make arrangements to show multipliers & multiplicands. We had a great time. Some kids did more math than others, but the buzz of busyness made my heart sing.

If I had more characters in this letter, I would inquire into your relationship with Gorbi & how you felt about his passing this week. I would also see if you noticed the Generation Ratify group who slept in Lafayette Park on July 30 & what you think of their idea to permanently legalize abortion by ratifying the ERA.

Today I will use my limited characters to applaud your speech last night which according to the G represents a “new, aggressive approach … to marginalize and Trump’s agenda.” I especially appreciated the following lines:

They (MAGAs) live, not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Democracy begins… (with)… the people’s habits of the heart… optimism that is tested, yet endures, courage that digs deep when we need it. Empathy that fuels democracy. The willingness to see each other not as enemies but as fellow Americans.

I share your conviction that DJT is a dangerous force pandering to a few disgruntled, misguided people who could do permanent damage to our democracy. Thanks for calling that out!

As you call out dangerous authoritarians, please say something about the junta who may be sentencing Aung San Suu Kyi to hard labor. A 70-year old, whose only crime is to lead her people, should not be digging in a quarry.

Have fun at your event today with Gina Raimondo. I hope that some of the billion $ in grants she is distributing make their way to Dunbar, WI to improve internet access.

BYBS,
