Greetings JRB,

            Yeah – you tested negative. I understand that you headed off to DE to finish out the weekend at the beach. Lucky you!

            I am lucky, too. It’s unseasonably pleasant here. A high of 92 in the forecast means I can leave the windows open. It also means that my tomato blooms might get pollenated today. When it gets too hot, tomatoes don’t set fruit & that’s been happening for the past few summers. This year, I planned to beat the heat by planting seedlings early. This backfired when we had a late cold snap which killed all the foliage. Gardening has become a crap shoot due to climate change. Dang!

            Speaking of which, according to the G today we need to repair our relationship with China so we can cooperate on saving human life on the planet. I specify “human life” because the fossil record indicates life on the planet will persist even if it the temp goes up by 10 degrees. We know life forms can exist at higher temps. It’s just that humans will have trouble feeding themselves. Luckily, our planet is full of brilliant people, so if we can just stop fighting with each other, we can make great progress in decarbonizing.

            Have you been listening to the vote-a-rama going on in the Senate right now as the GOP proposes amendments to the Inflation Reduction Act? How long can they keep it up?

            On a different matter, Bangladesh has asked China for help with the 919,000 Rohingya refugees living at the Kutupalong and Nayapara refugee camps in the Cox's Bazar region. Let’s offer some assistance from the USA. Dunbar, WI, has a facility, the former Northland Mission College, which could house several thousand people. If a chip manufacturing facility were erected to employ folks, it would be a win-win! Please consider it.
