MDFP, JRB,

Please give a shout out to the courageous youth & monks in Burma out protesting the junta as they mark their 73rd Independence Day & pray that the large # of peeps deters the military from attacking.

I have to write & run so I can get over to my CV test. What do you think the infection rate will be since the students went far & wide over the holiday break? Everyone will be tested so our data will be robust. I’ll keep you posted.

Congrats on making the front page of the WP today with your meat meeting. It’s a shame that no one mentioned alternative protein sources. Do we really need access to cheap meat? Remember, if you really want to CCC, you need to challenge that norm.

While I read the transcript of yesterday’s meeting, I kept thinking, “what would HTA say?” My dad(HTA) spent 60 years buying & selling grain for animal feed. He had strong opinions about the regulation of markets. He would approve of your statement, “Capitalism without competition isn’t capitalism,” but he would hate the idea of government intervention. He was all about FREE markets. He’d cringe at the idea that some companies are going to be subsidized to build meat processing facilities with tax $s.

He’d agree with Mike Brown’s, pres of the National Chicken Council, critique that you are “using the meat industry as a scapegoat for the significant challenges facing our economy.” My dad loved to talk about how the US has the cheapest food in the world thanks to our abundance of land, superior ag practices & economies of scale. According to the USDA, the “budget share for total food dropped by 10 percent in 2020, a new historical low,” so I think folks are more worried about inflated rents, cars & gas which make up a much larger share of their budgets.

Isn’t it great that PJ & JM3 are talking about BBB again? I suggest breaking off the CCC pieces of BBB to force Congress to show their true colors to the youth of the nation about their commitment to the future of the planet.
