My Friend & POTUS, JRB,
Did you discuss Myanmar with the QUAD guys? We need to pay attention to the situation there because half of the world’s population lives within a 2000-mile radius of it. Infections & disruptions there have a ripple effect. India is already feeling it. If you QUAD guys are sincere in your commitment to democracy then it’s time to let the people of Myanmar know that.
I don’t know if you discussed Myanmar because the QUAD meeting was not covered by the papers in the US. In fact, your activities were not covered much at all today. Your name appeared only 3 times on the NYT webpage & 5 times on the WP’s. New Yorkers want you to intervene in the terrible situation at the Riker’s Island Prison & the WP said something about your taxing billionaire’s “unrealized capital gains” to pay for the social infrastructure bill. I don’t have time to learn about unrealized capital gains, but I’m sure those billionaires can afford to pay taxes on them.
The most interesting thing in the papers today was a NYT article about reparations to the Black community. I was thrilled to see that Evanston, IL, home to the the Wildkits, my high school’s biggest rival, has set aside $10 million to provide housing grants to victims of race-based housing discrimination there. Other localities are planning to copy it, including KC, where my daughter now lives. The article also mentioned HR 40, a bill written by John Conyers, Jr. in 1989, that is finally headed to the House Floor. I hope you will endorse it, even though fair reparations for the 45 million descendants of enslaved people will cost $11.2 trillion. Please keep that on your priority list!
Back to international matters, I was shocked to see that the US is part of another Anglosphere effort called 5 Eyes that includes UK, New Zealand, Canada & Australia. Certainly, we can add a few more countries to our spying alliance so it’s not dominated by White leaders.
