Dear Friend, DJT,

It’s a historic day. Everyday seems to be historic in 2020, but today is historic because you will be having a WH Conference on American History. I wonder which historians will be in attendance & what they will say. If my uncle, Stephen E. Ambrose (SEA), were still alive, he would be watching the event with keen interest. I doubt he’d be invited.

SEA would be thrilled about the new Dwight D. Eisenhower (DDE) monument that is being dedicated today in DC. It’s too bad that you won’t be able to attend the event. As you recall SEA wrote a 2-volume biography of DDE & often talked about his role in editing DDE’s papers. Somehow Ike managed to appeal to almost everyone. My dad loved him so much that he cried when he heard of DDE’s death. I encourage you to read SEA’s books to see how Ike managed to get folks to like him.

When I saw that you were heading to Mosinee, WI, today, I took a look at the WI State Journal & learned that Tommy Bartlett’s Show is closing after a 68-year run entertaining tourists on Lake Delton at the WI Dells. Everyone in the state is heart-broken, because even if they’ve never been to the show, they’ve seen the billboards on the highway.

The waterski spectacle helped make the Dells a modern destination, by adding some show-biz to the natural attraction of the sandstone rock formations on the WI River. I canoed there with the girl scouts when I was in high school. It’s gorgeous.  The Dells first national recognition came from photographer, Henry Hamilton Bennett, who caught a shot of his son in the midst of an amazing leap between cliffs.

You might want to head down to see the Dells after your rally. You might also consider loaning Tom Diehl a few million dollars so he can keep the place open until Covid ends.

As you celebrate history today, please remember the quote, often attributed to Winston Churchill, “History is written by the victors.” I wonder who will write the history of the 2020 election.

            Be your best self,
