Happy Friday! How was the Black History Reception yesterday? I hope that you met some new folks and got some new insights into the challenges that Black folks face. I appreciated that you lauded "African American leaders, pioneers, and visionaries (who) have uplifted and inspired our country in art, in science, literature, law, film, politics, business, and every arena of national life." It would have been nice to invite Barak to the event since he is one of those inspirational leaders. Maybe next time.

I hope that all of your upcoming talks go well! Hopefully we get some good news about the trade deal with China today. Even better would be an agreement from Kim Jung Un next week to close the Yongbyonnuclear research and production facility. The NYT indicated that you might let the possibility of a Nobel Peace Prize distract you from denuclearization. I hope not! The WSJ points out that at your meeting in Hanoi Kim Jung Un can see how prosperous Vietnam is these days under "an authoritarian, single-party system that suppresses dissent" so he may be willing to go along with your plans. His people can enjoy a higher quality of life and he can retain control. I'm not thrilled about that arrangement but it beats the present situation.

Please do declare an end to the Korean War. Even better, ask Kim Jung Un to facilitate the reunion between North Korean and American Korean families separated during the war. Kyung Joo Lee, age 91, from Annandale, Virginiawould love to know what happened to his 4 siblings.

Say hi to the folks at the Republican Governors Association Reception this evening.

Best,
