My dear Friend and President, DJT,

What did you think of the MLK monument? Isn't it colossal? Next year I hope you'll spend more time commemorating MLK's life. He had a lot to teach us.

According to today's NYT, Mitch McConnell says, "“I’m perplexed as to how this ends.” As the Quakers say, "the Friend speaks my mind."  The very long feature notes that he's one of a few "undisputed masters of the machinery of American government" and "a virtuoso obstructionist during the Obama years." If you get a chance to look at it, you can skim all the parts in the middle that discuss previous Senate leaders. The end is the most intriguing part. Apparently, Mitch has been carefully curating who Charles Homans interviewed for the article and has been providing him with random bits and pieces of facts from his career. Most recently Mitch sent over his speech from his first days in the Senate when he voted to over-ride Reagan's veto of an anti-apartheid bill. Mitch said, “Conservatives and liberals, Republicans and Democrats, can and should act in unison and we should act now.” Do you think Mitch is getting ready to act now? I am eager to see if he does.

Things are a bit crazy in my house today so I have to cut this one short.

Have a nice lunch with Mike,
